Green House 2013

Last year we decided to try a small green house.  It fit exactly into the space next to our little cement patio.   It is approximately 10 x 12.

We now realize this space is just right, even though we had to sacrifice a large white dogwood.  It is in a sheltered place protected from the wind, and it already had an electrical outlet.

We bought a small electric heater at our church bazaar for $10.  It has been just right.  It doesn't have an annoying fan--just circulating fluid like an old-fashioned radiator.  It has not increased our electric bill very much.

There is also a heat-activated window in the top which opens when the green house gets too warm.

Star Magnolia

Early spring  is when one of my favorite small trees blooms.  It starts budding in really cold weather and seems to survive a light freeze.  Especially from a distance, the star shape that gives it its name really shows up.

My other favorite, the saucer magnolia, blooms a little later. Its buds are showing now.
